Croma Pharma

What Is Croma Pharma?

Croma-Pharma GmbH, commonly known as Croma, is a family-owned company that has grown into a global player in the rapidly evolving world of minimally invasive aesthetics. Founded in 1976 by pharmacists Gerhard and Karin Prinz in Vienna, Austria, Croma began as a small operation focused on producing high-quality medical products. Today, the company is recognised as a leader in the industry, particularly in the manufacturing of premium hyaluronic acid (HA) syringes.

Croma focuses on minimally invasive aesthetic medicine with its own branded products. In addition to a wide range of HA fillers produced in-house, Croma also offers PDO lifting threads, a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) system, botulinum toxin, skin boosters and personalised skincare technology.

Croma Pharma Manufacturing

To meet the growing demand for its products, Croma invested in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which opened in 2018. This fully automated site is dedicated to producing hyaluronic acid fillers using an innovative crosslinking technology developed in-house. This technology aligns HA chains and cross-links them using BDDE, creating a stable three-dimensional matrix. The result is a high-quality HA gel with enhanced viscosity, cohesiveness, and stability.

Croma’s commitment to quality is evident in every aspect of its production process. The company’s manufacturing lines are highly automated, minimising human influence and ensuring consistent product quality. During the filling process, Croma employs a restricted area barrier system (RABS) and terminal sterilisation to reduce the risk of contamination, ensuring the highest standards of safety and hygiene.

Longevity of the Results

Typically, the results can last for several months up to a year, depending on the product used, the injection area and the skin’s unique characteristics

To maintain the results, regular follow-up treatments are recommended. The frequency will be determined individually by the treatment provider since there are several factors that can affect how long the results last, including the client’s lifestyle, level of physical activity, sun exposure, and age.

Recommendations Before and After the Treatment

Before treatment, discuss the goals and expectations with your clients. Go through previous medical history, including any prior aesthetic treatments. If the client is on anticoagulant medication, it’s recommended to pause it for 14 days before the procedure.

To achieve the best results, clients need to adhere to a few guidelines. Most importantly, avoiding touching the treated areas on the day following the treatment. Also, they should refrain from applying makeup to the treated areas for at least 12 hours and avoid sun exposure, high temperatures, saunas, and steam rooms for the first week.

Potential Side Effects

Although Croma adheres to the highest quality standards to ensure product safety and effectiveness, some post-treatment discomfort or side effects may still occur – either immediately after the injection or at a later time.

It’s important for patients to promptly inform their aesthetic practitioner if they experience any inflammatory reactions or other adverse events, so they can provide appropriate care.

Contraindications for the Treatment

Treatments with most Croma products are not suitable to be used by individuals with:

  • History of autoimmune disease or currently on immunosuppressants
  • Hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, lidocaine, or amide-type local anaesthetics
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • People under 18 years old
  • An ongoing herpes infection
  • Tendency to develop hypertrophic scarring or have a susceptibility to keloid formation
